JEDDAH, 29 November - A Holy Qur'an reading competition will be held at the Philippine Consulate General tomorrow.
Organizers said the contest, the fifth to be held by the organization of Filipino Muslims in the Western Region, will start at 10 p.m.
Consul General Kadatuan P. Usop said the competition is intended to encourage Filipino Muslims in the region to read and gain deeper knowledge from the Holy Qur'an to facilitate better understanding of the Islamic teachings.
The various associations of Filipino Muslims in the region have been tasked to organize this year's event. It was the consulate that had done the job for the past four years.
The steering committee is composed of Ali Bashir Aguam as chairman, Camansa A. Gunao, Dr. Amilbahar Matingka and Abdullah San Pedro as members and Muhammad Eisa de Jesus as secretary.
