JEDDAH, 29 November — Teachers at a primary school in Jeddah had the embarrassment of their lives recently when an Arab beggar stormed into a classroom demanding help, Al-Bilad newspaper reported yesterday.

The man claimed that he and his wife, who had come for Umrah, were stranded in the city after losing their money. They wanted to travel by ship from Jeddah Islamic Port.

He also told them that he had left his wife at the port alone while he made the rounds begging to raise the required money to buy their tickets. Embarrassed, the teachers complained to the school director, who in turn called the patrol police.

The man, however, gathered that he had been reported and fled. He has not been seen since.
