JEDDAH, 4 December — Two out-of-school youth in the Philippines will definitely be going to school next year, thanks to the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers ‘ chapter in the Kingdom’s Western Region (PSME-WRSA).
Currently headed by Jun Lora, the chapter has sponsored a two-year scholarship grant to two deserving out-of-school youth willing to pursue a two-year vocational course related to the mechanical engineering field.
In coordination with the Dept of Social Welfare, two candidates will be selected from Regions 4-A (Southern Tagalog) and 12 (Central Mindanao).
The scholarship grant covers tuition and other incidental expenses for the selected course of the lucky applicant.
Chapter spokesman Muhidin Kome said the scholarship grant is just part of the PSME-WRSA’s vision to help hard-working students who are unable to pursue higher education due to financial difficulties.
“It’s our own small way of helping produce useful citizen,” he said.
Along with its sister chapter in the Eastern Region, the PSME-WRSA had also been conducting continuing education for its members.
It was the PSME that first got officials of the Professional Regulation Commission in Manila to conduct special licensure examinations to Filipino mechanical engineers in the Kingdom.
