JEDDAH, 12 December — Muhammad Al-Fayez, minister of civil service, has said that he considered the unauthorized absence of many government employees from their work places last Sunday, the last working day before the Eid holidays, as reprehensible.
He said all such absentees will be penalized with the deduction of one day’s pay. They will also have a black mark in their files.
The minister warned that those who do not report for duty again on Dec. 22 when government offices reopen after the holidays will be denied two days’ pay.
People who went to various government offices on Sunday for their urgent work said they found the offices abandoned. The explanation given was that employees did not work on that day because holidays were starting the next day.
