In celebration of Ramadan, the InterContinental Hotel has arranged special activities. For example, they have a special Ramadan Tent for iftar which is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m only; it serves an Arabian buffet. There is also a unique Ramadan menu at their Shisha Restaurant located by the grand swimming pool. The atmosphere is very relaxing and, some might even say, romantic. Something about the way the moon beams reflect on the silvery blue waters, I guess.
This restaurant’s main attraction is obvious from the name, so hubbly bubbly away. The seating was rather disturbing since the chairs weren’t so comfortable and as for the table I sat at — well, it wobbled all night. As you first enter the restaurant on your right, food is displayed. There is the salad bar, the shawarma stand, the saaj for making manakeesh and a tray overflowing with delicious desserts. They don’t really offer a special set menu, it’s actually a la carte but the prices are reasonable. They have the most delicious manakeesh with cheese, zatar or haloumi. It’s so soft and light.
As for the salad bar, I think it could use a wider selection of vegetables. I liked the hummos though it was a bit runny. They also serve yummy araiis which is a kind of pancake filled with meat or cheese. They have a plate of assorted barbecued meat. My friend thought the lamb chops were succulent. I found the meat kofta a bit chewy and heavy on the stomach, to be honest. They also serve some nice Ramadan drinks — tamarind and sahlab.
The service was friendly but the waiters seemed to disappear from time to time. In conclusion, I think that they could improve a lot on the seating. I distinctively remember a much more pleasant ambience a few years back. Nevertheless, it is worth a visit! Shisha is located at the InterCon on the Jeddah Corniche.
