MAKKAH, 16 December — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, yesterday called upon the international community to take a firm stand to halt the brutal Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.
In a joint message to Muslims on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr, they stressed the need to revive the peace process in order to establish a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
Such peace should enable the Palestinian people to achieve their “legitimate rights, including their right to set up an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and give Syria and Lebanon back their occupied territories,” the two leaders said.
The message, read out on television by Information Minister Fouad Al-Farsy, said “Muslims’ role in the world is to build and not to destroy. In the past and present they have been the builders of civilization and not its destroyers.”
The king and the crown prince urged Muslims to “strive to communicate to other communities the tenets of Islam, a religion that preaches peace and tolerance.”
They pointed out that “the Kingdom works for the welfare of all people and is keen to conduct constructive dialogue between diverse civilizations so that peace and stability prevail in the world.”
King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah extended hearty Eid Al-Fitr greetings to the Muslims in the Kingdom and other parts of the world and hoped that the happy occasion would herald a new era of justice, peace and prosperity for the whole world.
Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Judiciary Council had announced on Friday that the Kingdom would celebrate Eid today as the new moon to mark the end of Ramadan was not sighted on Friday evening. Most Arab countries are celebrating Eid today.
