DAMMAM, 23 December — Seven members of a Saudi family were killed and five others injured when the jeep they were traveling in overturned and caught fire.
The father, mother, four daughters and son were killed instantly and five other daughters of the same couple were injured in the accident, on the Dammam-Abu Haidariya road.
Police said the jeep overturned when a van tried to overtake it. The driver of the van escaped unhurt.
Saudi Arabia has one of the world’s highest rates of road accidents, according to the transport ministry. Official reports indicate that more than 35,000 people died and over 200,000 were injured in traffic accidents in the past 10 years.
