JEDDAH, 26 December — The Saudi Embassy in Washington denied a report that appeared in the Kansas City Star newspaper on Friday which said former Makkah Governor Prince Majed, 64, was a captive in Afghanistan.
The embassy statement, quoted by the Okaz newspaper, described the report as baseless saying the prince, who arrived in the United States for treatment on Sept. 23, is still in the country and has undergone a partial liver transplant.
The Kansas newspaper said the prince was one of five Saudi citizens taken prisoner while fighting alongside Al-Qaeda organization in Afghanistan. It did not say who had taken him prisoner. Saudi observers said this was a lie being spread as part of a hate campaign against the Kingdom in the US media.
