DAMMAM, 26 December — The Ministry of Interior and the Saudi Telecom Company have reached an agreement under which people applying for any service from various departments under the ministry will have to clear all outstanding STC bills beforehand. The ministry will implement shortly the agreement reached after monthslong negotiations, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday.

A source said STC was forced to request the cooperation of the ministry as the company has accumulated an amount of more than SR2 billion in outstanding bills.

According to the agreement, the Passports Department, the Traffic Department and the Civil Status Bureau will ask citizens and expatriates seeking their services to fully settle STC dues before processing their applications.

The move follows the success achieved by the Traffic Department, which applied the same strategy to collect fines imposed on traffic violators, Al-Watan said.
