JEDDAH, 5 January — The Public Security Department has set aside exclusive telephone and fax numbers and an e-mail address to receive complaints about security personnel.

Members of the general public can report any breach of rules by security men by calling the exclusive phone number 989 or by sending a message to fax number 01-4401010 or e-mail [email protected], Al-Riyadh newspaper said yesterday.

Lt. Gen. Asaad Al-Fareeh, director of public security, said a special task force has been set up in the department to act on complaints and proposals from the public.

The police chief admitted that some of his men, particularly the new recruits, might have been breaking regulations while dealing with the public.

The follow-up wing in the department will pursue the shortcomings of security men who are reported. It will also take action on the complaints, observations and proposals with an aim at improving the performance level of the security personnel, Al-Fareeh said.

Those who make the complaints or come up with proposals should give their full name, address and phone number, which will be recorded for future reference.

Al-Fareeh was adamant that the department would act on all useful recommendations made by the public. He added that the department will take steps to compensate all proven violations made by security personnel against any citizen or expatriate.

Al-Fareeh said the idea of setting up this department was conceived the very day he took over as police chief.

He urged all citizens and expatriates to cooperate effectively with the officials to maintain security as well as adhere to the traffic and safety regulations.
