DAMMAM, 16 January — The Ministry of Islamic Affairs is looking for two Arab expatriate workers — one of whom claiming to have recently embraced Islam — accused of surreptitiously collecting funds for Christian missionaries.
Informed sources said the ministry mounted an investigation after seeing reports that the two had used a document certifying their embracing of Islam to collect funds from people in the Eastern Province, only then to clandestinely pass the money on to Christian missionaries.
The preliminary information gathered indicates that the "new Muslim", a Jordanian, embraced Islam with the support of a fellow national. They visited Hail and many Eastern Province cities to collect donations that were allegedly used to finance missionary activities.
The sources said people became suspicious of the activities of the two individuals when they did not find them attending Juma or other congregational prayers. They said the ministry had directed its branch offices to keep a watch on the two.
The dawa centers collect all information about all persons who revert to Islam and follow their activities continuously.
