JEDDAH, 21 January — The Overseas Pakistanis Advisory Council (OPAC) in its meeting held in September in Islamabad had made certain recommendations for resolving the various problems being faced by expatriate Pakistanis. One of the recommendations was aimed at providing legal protection to the Foreign Currency Accounts, according to a press release of the Pakistan Consulate General here. The government of Pakistan has implemented the recommendation made by the OPAC by promulgating “Foreign Accounts (Protection) Ordinance 2001”. The government hopes that this measure will help in restoring confidence of overseas Pakistanis/investors besides boosting foreign exchange remittances through the banking channel.
