KARACHI, 23 January — A spokesman of the Pakistan People’s Party yesterday denied that President Pervez Musharraf was likely to meet the PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto in the US in the next few months.
He said that he contacted Benazir but she expressed ignorance about any such planned, or "surprise" meeting.
According to reports, the meeting was to be "projected" as an "unexpected encounter" between the two leaders, one aspiring for future presidentship and the other for becoming prime minister for the third time through a "common friend" at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington.
The report further said that after the recent change in the approach of the establishment, Benazir was again the most appropriate choice, whose very election to the office of prime ministership can give Pakistan an image of moderate and modern society.
"No such meeting is planned, neither is one in the offing," said the spokesman.
