RIYADH, 2 February — A media campaign will be launched today by Al-Eqtisadiah business daily, a sister publication of Arab News, to collect funds for the Prince Fahd ibn Salman Charitable Society for the Care of Kidney Patients.
The campaign comes in line with the Saudi Research & Publishing Company’s efforts to extend moral and financial support to the society, which aims to take care of some 6,000 kidney patients in various parts of the Kingdom.
Prince Ahmad ibn Salman, secretary-general and member of the society, has already approved the charity’s new emblem in the form of "helping hands". It was selected from various designs presented by a number of specialized offices.
"The emblem highlights the caring aspect of the society’s activities," said a press statement.
The painting shows the loving hands that take care of a kidney patient who in turn expresses his happiness.
"This logo reflecting happiness reinforces the society’s objective of instilling joy in the minds of kidney patients and alleviating their suffering," the statement said.
The emblem, in blue and lead colors, also highlights the purity and nobility of work being carried out by the society. The blue color reflects the strength of the mission while the lead color shows the greatness of its goal.
The Prince Fahd Charitable Society was established on the initiative of a number of princes, businessmen and philanthropists. It depends on their donations to carry out various charitable projects.
The society has received donations from a number of Saudi businessmen and philanthropists as well. It will use the money to be collected through the new campaign to establish more specialized centers to treat kidney patients and conduct kidney transplant operations.
"The society has already started implementing a number of activities related to kidney patients, creating a conducive atmosphere for their care and treatment," the press statement said.
Dr. Faisal Shaheen, director general of the Saudi Organ Transplant Center and a member of the society, said the charity was studying the situation of kidney patients in different parts of the Kingdom to work out a strategy to help them.
The society has set up a consulting committee comprising experts from different countries to conduct studies and research that would eventually contribute to containing the disease.
Dr. Shaheen said the society organized a number of field visits to kidney centers at hospitals recently to understand closely the situation of kidney patients. Its volunteers also visited the dialysis centers in the Riyadh region.
He said the society would prepare a plan in support of the organ transplant center to increase the number of people donating their organs in tune with the growing demand for organs. Another media campaign will be launched to enhance public awareness on the importance of donating organs, he added.
