RIYADH, 3 February — Deputy Governor of Riyadh Prince Sattam and Prince Ahmad ibn Salman, chairman of Saudi Research & Marketing Group, donated SR2 million and SR1.5 million respectively to the Prince Fahd ibn Salman Charitable Society for the Care of Kidney Patients during a fund-raising event here last night.
Organizers said more than SR7.7 million was collected during the event which also witnessed the announcement of the winners of Prince Fahd ibn Salman contest organized by Okaz Organization for Press & Publication last Ramadan.
Other major contributors were Princess Hussa bint Salman, who donated SR2 million, the wife and sons of Prince Ahmad ibn Salman (SR500,000), Princess Sara bint Khaled ibn Musaed and the children of Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Salman (SR500,000), Princess Nouf bint Khaled ibn Abdullah and the children of Prince Fahd ibn Salman (SR500,000), Prince Faisal ibn Ahmad ibn Salman (SR250,000), Princess Lamya bint Mishaal and her sisters (SR500,000) and Okaz organization SR450,000.
Addressing the function, Prince Sattam, who is deputy chairman of the society, commended Okaz for organizing the contest in honor of the late Prince Fahd to promote charity work. He urged other companies and businessmen to follow Okaz’s example.
Prince Ahmad ibn Salman, who is the charity’s secretary-general, noted the late prince’s humanitarian activities, especially in the service of kidney patients. He said the charity for the care of kidney patients was established by Prince Fahd ibn Salman to realize humanitarian, social and medical objectives. “Chronic cases like kidney failure require the cooperation of the public with health services to help patients receive maximum care,” he added.
Prince Ahmad said the charity would also support organ transplant programs and scientific research and seminars.
Donations to the charity could be deposited in Account No. 95 at the National Commercial Bank’s Takhassusi branch in Riyadh.
Prince Sattam later picked the contest’s top prize winner. Muhammad Ahmad Shaneef, the lucky winner will get a cash prize of SR1 million. Okaz has decided to organize the contest annually with prizes worth SR1.5 million, of which SR500,000 will go to the society’s activities.
