JEDDAH, 4 February — The most common nasal diseases in the Kingdom are nasal sinusitis, mycosis and non-malignant tumors, according to Dr. Abdul Munim Al-Sheikh, president of the Saudi ENT Society.
"The climate is a major factor leading to the spread of these diseases in the Kingdom," Al-Sheikh told a seminar of ENT doctors held at the Mosaediah Specialist Center of the King Fahd Hospital here last week.
Al-Sheikh noted that the high humidity in the coastal provinces and prolonged exposure to air-conditioners exacerbated the spread of allergies, particularly among children and the aged, who are less immune to fungus attacks.
During the event, 150 doctors got an opportunity to view ENT operations using the latest techniques through video conferencing.
"The relay of the surgery on a large screen enabled the participants in the seminar to follow the details of the operations and ask questions to the team of experts," he added.
Dr. Rida Kamel of the medical faculty of the Ain Shams University in Cairo headed the surgery team, which displayed advanced surgical techniques in the treatment of ENT problems.
