JEDDAH, 5 February — A prestigious Danish commercial award was presented to a leading Saudi trader and businessman at a ceremony held here on Sunday.
Danish Ambassador Sven Erik Nordberg presented the medal of honor of Prince Henrik of Denmark and the diploma of the National Association for Danish Enterprise to Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Ghamdi at the latter’s residence.
The ambassador said the medal of honor and the diploma were considered to be the most prestigious Danish commercial award presented to foreign business companies or individuals.
The award is given to a few and selected companies worldwide every year. It is the fourth time only that the award was presented to a Saudi company.
The award was presented to the Orient Provision and Trading Company Ltd. (OPTC), owned by Al-Ghamdi in recognition of outstanding and remarkable achievements in the promotion of Danish canned halal poultry meat products under the prime brand "ROBERT" through a longstanding cooperation with the Danish company, Robert Damkjaer Ltd.
"Being a small nation, it is not easy for a country like Denmark to make its presence felt internationally, be it in politics or trade. We need to present our viewpoints in a clear and credible manner to be heard, and we need to make safe and reliable products for our export markets. But first of all we need partners. And if we have been successful in our export achievements through the last 100 years or more it is due not only to our own capabilities but certainly also to our partners abroad," the ambassador added.
