JEDDAH, 6 February — A special committee consisting of the representatives of the King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology, Saudi Arabian Standards Organization and the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center has been set up to determine the level of lead in the rice imported from the United States. The committee will also determine the maximum level of lead that could be allowed. The laboratories of the Commerce Ministry are not equipped to conduct these tests, according to Al-Watan newspaper. The American rice will be released to the markets only after the tests confirm its safety.
