JEDDAH, 14 February — Sewage water is still being pumped into downtown lagoons although the authorities have ordered the Water and Sewage Department to close the pipes which carry sewage to them, Al-Madinah daily reported yesterday. The municipality recently signed a contract with a private company to clean the Arbaeen and Salam lagoons. The cleaning operation, which is set to start after the Haj, will last three years. The company has demanded that the department stop dumping sewage into the lagoons immediately.
