TABARJEL, 7 March — A bloody fight involving seven Egyptian expatriate workers wielding various sharp weapons has resulted in them being admitted to Tabarjel General Hospital. Two of the injured were later transferred to the intensive care unit at the Gurayat General Hospital.
Witnesses said that the seven construction workers, who work for two different companies, fought against each other using knives and other sharp weapons, until the police separated them. The fighting started following a dispute between the two groups, who were engaged in erecting the same building.
The masonry workers, who worked for one company, told the carpenters working for the other company to remove scaffolding from the building because it was apparently hindering their work.
The carpenters reacted by shouting obscenities. Soon there was a fistfight, with the workers using whatever work tools they had in hand. The result was that all seven of them received serious injuries.
Brig. Saeed Al-Ghamdi, who is heading the police investigation, told Arab News that when police officers reached the scene they found all the seven on the ground.
Ghamdi said that police had arrested the five workers who were not very seriously injured after they were discharged from hospital.
