DAMMAM, 19 March — Eastern Province Governor Prince Muhammad ibn Fahd has commended the efforts businessmen have exerted in the cause of charity and called upon everyone to contribute to alleviate the suffering of the poor in the country. He was speaking at the annual Prince Muhammad ibn Fahd Award for Charity ceremony in Dammam on Sunday night, where he presented awards for excellence to 14 businessmen and institutions in recognition of their valuable contributions to various charitable causes.
The governor said Islam placed special emphasis on charity and congratulated the winners by saying that he hoped their efforts would set an example for others to follow.
Also present at the function were Sheikh Saleh Al-Sheikh, minister of Islamic affairs and Waqf, and Dr. Ali Al-Nimlah, minister of labor and social affairs.
Al-Sheikh paid special tributes to the efforts of Prince Muhammad in promoting charitable work. He said the establishment of this award has encouraged many individuals and institutions to give help to the needy.
The labor minister said Prince Muhammad was following in the footsteps of his family, which has a long tradition of helping the less fortunate — both in Saudi Arabia and abroad.
Prominent among the winners were Abdul Aziz Algosaibi, Ibrahim Al-Matrood, Khaled Al-Bawardi, Khaled Abdullah Al-Dabal, Abdullah Muhammad Al-Saeed, Dr. Nasser Ibn Ibrahim Al-Rasheed, and a number of institutions.
