JEDDAH, 23 March — More and more reports are coming in of how Israeli military operations disrupt medical services in the occupied territories, preventing patients from seeking medical help in Palestine or abroad.
Israeli restrictions on free movement and financial difficulties merely aggravate one another.
The latest case concerns a Palestinian, Mohammed Hussien Abid, who is suffering from blue water in the left eye and needs surgery to remove it.
The operation involves implanting a lens in the eye, according to Dr. Mutia’ Khalid Al-Aseer of the eye section of Al-Shifa Hospital situated in Jenin, West Bank. (e-mail address: [email protected])
“The operation on Abid will cost 485 dinars. That covers hospitalization, treatment and medicine,” he said, appealing for financial help for the patient.

Meanwhile, Israeli atrocities are hampering the general effectiveness of the medical services in the occupied territories. In the name of security, even pregnant women are not being allowed to reach hospitals.
Even worse, ambulances often come under attack direct from the Israeli security forces.
