DAMMAM, 27 March — Heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed the Eastern Province yesterday, disrupting normal traffic and flooding low-lying areas. The Presidency of Meteorology and Environment said that more rains, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, are expected over the next 24 hours.

The sky in the cities of Dammam, Alkhobar, Sihat, Qatif and Jubail was overcast from early morning, and by midday it started drizzling. Later, the heavens opened. Traffic on the highways and main roads was moving at a snail’s pace as visibility was reduced to few yards.

Sihat area recorded maximum rainfall.

The worst affected areas were the Coastal Road and Thuqba, where even a drizzle can cause flooding. The Municipal Department there has already installed pumps to clear the floodwater.
