BEIRUT, 28 March — Prince Nawaf, director of intelligence and a member of the Kingdom’s delegation to the Arab summit, was admitted to the American University Hospital here yesterday after “suddenly falling ill”, the Saudi Press Agency said.
Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard and head of the Saudi delegation to the summit, visited Prince Nawaf at the hospital and wished him a speedy recovery.
“Doctors told the crown prince that Prince Nawaf would be able to leave hospital shortly after medical tests have been completed,” SPA said.
Delegates to the summit said Prince Nawaf was rushed to the hospital after fainting during the opening session of the two-day event.
Prince Abdullah was accompanied by a number of princes and senior officials, including Prince Faisal ibn Abdullah, head of the National Guard in the Western Province, Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah, Prince Bandar ibn Salman ibn Muhammad, advisers, Prince Turki ibn Abdullah, and Prince Abdul Aziz ibn Fahd, state minister and head of the Court of the Presidency for Cabinet Affairs.
Prince Nawaf was appointed intelligence chief in September last year in place of Prince Turki Al-Faisal, who had held the post since 1977 but requested to be relieved.
A former finance minister, Prince Nawaf also served as an adviser to King Faisal and head of the Royal Court.
