JEDDAH, 2 April — The Kingdom yesterday reiterated its denouncement of the Israeli Army’s siege on Palestinian President Yasser Arafat as well as its assault on his Ramallah headquarters and said the Jewish state’s aggressive acts proved it was not interested in peace.
“The Council of Ministers strongly condemned the Israeli forces’ continued brutal aggression on Palestinian cities, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and President Arafat’s headquarters,” said Information Minister Dr. Fouad Al-Farsy following a weekly Cabinet meeting.
The Cabinet also called upon the UN Security Council, the United States, Russia and Europe to back the Saudi-inspired new Arab peace plan, force Israel to withdraw from occupied Arab land and put an end to the Jewish state’s oppressive policies against the Palestinians.
The Saudi Cabinet called upon Israel to accept the new peace proposal — which offers normalization of ties in return for total withdrawal of forces — and acknowledge the rights of the Palestinians if it really wanted to have peace and security.
“Israel’s continuous aggression as well as its rejection of Security Council resolutions prove its antipathy toward peace,” the Cabinet said, and denounced the Jewish state’s reign of terror on unarmed Palestinians including children and women, “without considering even the basics of human rights.”
Addressing the Cabinet meeting, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd commended the resounding success achieved by last week’s Arab summit in Beirut. He noted the remarkable role played by Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, to make the conference a success.
The Cabinet meeting endorsed the air transportation accord with Qatar and the investment promotion and protection agreement with South Korea. It approved a number of new appointments including the appointment of Abdul Aziz Al-Aqel as security adviser at the Riyadh governorate.
