NEW DELHI, 18 April — A senior bureaucrat has been appointed vice chancellor of India’s largest Muslim educational institution, the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Naseem Ahmad, 55, a 1972 batch Indian Administration Service (IAS) officer and an alumnus of AMU, would serve the institution for five years.
AMU, a premier residential educational institution with nearly 28,000 students, is located at Aligarh town, in Uttar Pradesh state, about 130 km from here.
President K.R. Narayanan, the university’s visitor, announced Naseem’s appointment late Tuesday. He was selected from a panel of three names recommended by the university court, the highest governing body of the institution.
Earlier, Naseem was the finance commissioner and principal secretary of Haryana state.
