JEDDAH, 21 April — A Saudi youth who was trying to rescue a 15-year-old girl from drowning off the coast of Shoaiba was swept away by a strong wave last Friday evening.
Al-Madinah daily said in a report yesterday that the girl, who was on a picnic to the beach with her parents, had ventured into the shallow waters when a huge wave carried her away.
Seeing that the girl’s life was in danger, Salim Ali Al-Harithy, 24, jumped into the water and quickly reached beside her, but another wave swept him away and he was never seen again. The Border Guard and diving experts combed the area in vain for a long time. The girl was rescued and admitted to hospital.
