BOMBAY, 21 April — On Monday the BSE closed at 3,461.51. Pharma stocks led the fall. Hero Honda Motors ended the day with modest gains when, for Q4, it posted a 172 percent rise in net profit to Rs.1,525.6 million.
Shyam Telecom hit the 20 percent upper limit of the circuit breaker at Rs.81.60 on speculative buying interest following news of its restructuring plans.
HDFC Bank slipped into the red despite having posted for Q4, a 37.70 percent rise in net profit to Rs.902.4 million. Ciba Specialty Chemicals was up following its parent company’s open offer to acquire a 49 percent stake at Rs.110 per share.
On Tuesday the BSE closed at 3,413.72. Media major, Mukta Arts was also up because of rumors of deal with Sony India for the sale of its film library rights for Rs.140 million-150 million.
Fulford India was also up due to rumors that Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) might direct the company to come out with an open offer to repurchase equity shares at a price above Rs.350 per share.
Kotak Mahindra Finance surged after it announced the decision to convert into a bank and is also toying with merging with an existing bank as on option for diluting the promoter’s stake to a level prescribed by the RBI.
On Wednesday the BSE closed at 3,421.82.
On Thursday the BSE closed at 3,420.94. Tata Iron & Steel was a major gainer on hopes of a further rise in the price of steel.
Knoll Pharma was up at Rs.308.95 after it announced buyback of equity shares at Rs. 350 per share.
On Friday the BSE closed at 3,364.40. On the BSE, 442 stocks advanced while 888 declined and 118 were unchanged.
Gold was at Rs.5,040/- per 10 gms and silver was at Rs.7,785/- per Kg.
US dollar was at Rs.48.91, pound sterling at Rs.70.64, euro at Rs.43.47, UAE dirham at Rs.13.31, Kuwaiti dinar at Rs.159.48, Bahraini dinar at Rs.129.33, Saudi riyal at Rs.13.04, Qatari ryal at Rs.13.43 and Omani riyal at Rs.125.77.
