JEDDAH, 8 May — Police arrested a man who declared himself to be the promised Messiah — or Isa, son of Mariyam — who according to Muslim belief will return to the world to lead believers shortly before the world comes to an end, Al-Madinah reported on Monday.
The man, who is in his early thirties, said the archangel Gabriel had paid him a visit while he was traveling on the Taif-Riyadh road, and proceeded to reveal his new role as Messiah.
Immediately afterward, the man went to a newspaper office seeking to publicize his role in a bid to seek followers.
He also announced plans to march to Palestine in order to liberate Jerusalem. When people asked him to produce proof for his claim, he obscurely pointed to a cat that was walking on the nearby road.
