TORONTO, 14 June — Canada’s Minister for International Trade Pierre S. Pettigrew is expected to visit Islamabad soon, Pakistan’s new High Commissioner for Ottawa, Shahid Malik, disclosed here yesterday. Addressing a gathering of industrialists, traders, financial experts and senior officials of Canadian banks at a reception hosted in his honor in Toronto, the high commissioner hoped that Pettigrew’s expected tour to Pakistan will boost his country’s trade ties with Canada. “Pakistan, a country of 140 million people, is offering incentives for foreign investors with Canadian industrialists taking keen interest in Islamabad’s leather, textile and petroleum sectors,” Pettigrew was quoted as saying while launching Canada’s new Trade Action Plan here recently. Malik also referred to the recent visits of Pakistani and Canadian dignitaries to each other’s countries.
