RIYADH, 16 June — The government has decided to Saudize fully the jobs of customs brokers and their assistants, according to Dr. Abdul Wahed Al-Humaid, secretary-general of the Manpower Council. He said the decision came into effect on June 8. “Other jobs at customs clearance offices — customs experts, accountants, translators and field workers — will be Saudized gradually within the next two years,” Humaid said. Interior Minister Prince Naif has approved the nationalizing of jobs in the sector. A special panel comprising representatives from the Customs Department, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the Passports Department will conduct field inspections to make sure that the Saudization drive in this vital economic sector has been launched. The customs offices which fail to Saudize the designated jobs will be given a grace period of two months to rectify the situation, Humaid said. The customs department will not accept any applications from defaulters after the grace period, he added.
