RIYADH, 27 June — Technical experts are often blamed for being difficult to understand or too disorganized for the “laymen” and the leaders of the Computer Society of Filipinos (ComSoFil) are apparently aware of this.
Which is why tomorrow, ComSoFil officers and facilitators will again participate in a workshop on parliamentary procedure to be conducted by the Sand Dunes Toastmasters Club (SDTC) and the Toast of ComSoFil.
“The workshop is an offshoot of an earlier seminar on parliamentary procedures conducted by the Club for the same beneficiaries,” said SDTC President Nomel I. Gilongos. He said the participants will learn not only about the rules of order in a meeting or dialogue but also the basics of effective communication.
Founded on Sept. 7, 1997, SDTC had already conducted educational seminars and workshops that accommodated other toastmasters and non-toastmasters alike.
Among the significant seminar-workshops was “Expanding Your Horizons,” a five-session workshop on leadership and communications held early this year from January to April
Other notable workshops carried out by the club was “Characteristics of Effective Leaders” conducted by Janaki Pattanaik, the incumbent governor of the Gulf Toastmasters Council on Jan. 24, and “Developing Your Leadership Skills” conducted by Syed Abu Zafar, incumbent division governor for Saudi Arabia, on Feb. 7.
SDTC has also implemented a comprehensive Young Toastmasters program that has benefited the children of club members and selected students of Riyadh International School (RIS). It has also helped RIS produced excerpts from the Broadway musicale, “The King & I.”
SDTC meets at the RIS every Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Larry Cueva, the vice president for education who will succeed Gilongos of June 30, said the group places great importance on the educational achievements of its members. This year, it was able to produce four Competent Toastmasters, four Advanced Toastmasters, five Competent Leaders and three Leadership Excellence awardees.
At the start of the year, the club emerged victorious during the Riyadh Tall Tales Contest participated in by 16 toastmaster clubs in the central region.
