JEDDAH, 30 June — Dr. Yousuf Khan Jaweed was yesterday unanimously elected chairman of the managing committee of the International Indian School, Jeddah for one year (2002-03).
His name was proposed by Abdul Khader and was seconded by Dr. Iqbal Musani.
The committee, which has a three-year mandate, will elect another chairman this time next year. A third member will head the panel in 2004-05, according a decision taken by the new members.
Election to the new managing committee was held in day-long balloting on Friday and seven out of eight contestants were declared elected in the evening. The new panel met yesterday morning to choose the chairman.
The committee is a representative body of parents of about 9,000 children studying at IISJ, the largest Indian school worldwide.
Chairman of the outgoing committee Abdul Rahim welcomed the new panel and wished his successor and members good luck. After he spoke, the new managing committee was installed in the presence of observers from the Department of Foreign Education Mustafa Hersi and Indian Embassy First Secretary and Coordinator of International Indian Schools in the Kingdom Zikrur Rahman.
A long-time resident of Jeddah, Dr. Jaweed, from Hyderabad, is a physician with Saline Water Conversion Corporation.
