NEW YORK, 30 June — The Muslim World League delegation, which is on a visit to the United States, yesterday met with Brig. Dennis Blackman, head of the division to combat racial violence at New York City police station. Blackman highlighted his department’s efforts to promote peace and coexistence among various racial groups. He said there are a number of Arabs and Muslims in the police force.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Turki, secretary-general of the MWL and head of the delegation, met with a representative of UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and discussed prospects of promoting cooperation between the two organizations.
Turki called upon the United Nations not to ignore religious values while addressing social issues. "Religion regulates human life and contributes effectively to reinforce world peace and stability," he explained.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmad Kamal Abu Al-Majd, a member of the delegation, emphasized the need for promoting dialogue between Islamic scholars and representatives of various religious communities in the US. (SPA)
