JEDDAH, 15 July — King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Jeddah has signed an agreement with Dar Al-Hekma College to introduce a joint medical program for bachelor degree and diploma in nursing for intensive care, it was announced here yesterday.
The hospital will provide 10 scholarships in the first phase of the project, the announcement said, adding that there will be 20 girl students in the beginning of the program, which is to start in September . The hospital had earlier conducted a feasibility study on the project.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sultan Bahbary, executive director of KFSH and secretary-general of the Council for Developing Health Services in the Makkah Region, said Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed had approved the program.
He said Dr. Hasan Saleh Jamal, dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences at King Abdul Aziz University, has been selected coordinator of the committees for inspecting hospitals in the region.
"The project aims at improving health services in the region," he said. The committees will conduct inspection tours of all public and private hospitals in the region to check the quality of services .
"These inspection tours will help make an assessment of health services at various clinics, emergency wards and operation rooms," he pointed out. The committees are comprised of medical experts who work at medical departments in the region.
He said the committees will also help hospitals and medical centers solve their problems and meet their needs in coordination with the concerned authorities. The project also aims at holding an annual ceremony to honor best hospitals in the region.
