DAMMAM, 16 July — The newly elected Parent-Teacher Association Council at the Philippine School in Dammam (PSD) has pledged its all-out support for the improvement of one of the biggest Filipino schools in the Kingdom.
The Council officers, who will serve for schoolyear 2002-2003, said they expect a busier year by introducing trainings and seminars for both the parents and teachers at PSD.
This will include topics on new computer software, savings and investment, and franchising which are being offered by community organizations like the Filipino Computer Society and the OFW Congress.
PTAC president Ferdinand Arana said seminars on relevant subjects would be scheduled in such a way that mothers can attend them while waiting in school for their children to finish their classes.
“We parents must play a big role in building the school for this is the second home of our children,” Arana said.
The officers were recently inducted into office by outgoing Ambassador Rafael Seguis during a farewell dinner hosted by the school.
Testimonial speeches were given by school principal Lita Rulloda and board chairman Romy Novelles in honor of the ambassador.
PSD teachers serenaded the ambassador with the undying song Saan Ka Man Naroroon, while pupils Kimverlie Molina and Anne Bernadette Indefenso gave their own song renditions. Talented pupils Joseph and Jamie Mones led the national anthem by playing the violin.
Apart from Arana, the new officers are Art Mones, vice-president; Arceli Casenas, secretary; Mayflora Salvador, treasurer; Ramon Sawit, auditor; Chuck Obero, public relations officer; and Manny Hernandez, adviser and immediate past president.
The parent representatives who were also elected are Nolan Paras, for pre-school; Alejandro Cea, lower elementary; Ranier Tavanlar, upper elementary; Ric Castano, high school; and two representatives from the faculty, Judy Paulino and Emelita Rojas.
