LONDON, 18 July — The Oxford Center of Islamic Studies has announced a new fellowship in Islamic jurisprudence in honor of Prince Abdullah, the regent.
In a statement, a copy of which was received by Arab News on Tuesday, the center said the new fellowship would contribute significantly to the development of studies and scientific research at Oxford to help create a better understanding of the Islamic world.
The statement said the fellowship was started with a generous donation received by the center. The first recipient of the fellowship is Dr. Hussein Hasan, a lecturer in law at Mansfield College, Oxford University. He specializes in the theories of contracts as well as in comparative studies between Islamic jurisprudence and civil law. His book, “The Law of Contract: A Comparative Study”, will be published soon.
The Oxford Center of Islamic Studies was established in 1985 and affiliated to Oxford University with the objective of promoting a better understanding of Islam and the Muslim world through teaching, research, seminars and conferences.
