JEDDAH, 24 July — A senior Saudi diplomat has denied reports that the Kingdom was planning to send an official team to Thailand to participate in the recently revived investigations into the murders of three Saudi diplomats and a businessman in Bangkok more than 10 years ago.
Hani Abdullah Mominah, charge d’ affaires at the Saudi Consulate in Bangkok, described such reports, attributed to his Thai counterpart in Riyadh, as fictitious . “It was meant only for media consumption. I am not aware of any new development in the matter,” Al-Yaum Arabic daily quoted Mominah as saying.
“Nothing new has turned up in the inquiries. The Saudi mission did not receive any message about new developments in the crimes, nor has any perpetrator of the crimes been tracked down.
The Thai government is aware of the specific demands made by the Kingdom in order to bring Saudi-Thai relations back to the old level,” Mominah said. The ban on Saudis visiting Thailand is still in place, the diplomat added. Only businessmen are allowed to visit the country.
