ALKHOBAR, 29 July — The United Bicolanos will hold a Mini-Fun Run on Friday at Corniche in Alkhobar on Friday.

Dubbed “A Run for a Cause for the National Calamity Disaster Assistance in the Philippines,” the event will start at 5 a.m. at the back of McDonald’s Restaurant in Corniche.

UB president George Palencia said that two-and-a-half hour event will be include a 400-meter run for children and one- and two- kilometer categories for adults.

Palencia said proceeds of this event will be sent to the Natural Calamity Assistance Fund in the Philippines.

“It is but right for us OFWs to give something to our friends and relatives back home who are greatly affected by calamities that hit our country,” he said.

The Bicolano group is a newly formed community organization in the Eastern Region which also joined the Accredited Community Partners (ACPs) of the Philippine Embassy under the supervision of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

UB members come from the six provinces of typhoon-prone Bicol region — Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon.

UB started its humanitarian cause in April by holding a “Dinner for a Cause,” the proceeds of which were supposedly donated to the Mayon Volcano Disaster Assistance Fund in Albay province.

Sponsoring the fun run are Showtime, Aramex, McDonald Restaurant, Al Mana Hospital, Backstreet Café, Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Home Center, Puerto Azul (Roces) Restaurant, Sky Freight Forwarders, Al-Wafa Flower Shop, and the JP Sikaran Martial Arts International. The sponsors will be giving away trophies and medals and consolation prizes.
