Joy riders arrested: A number of teenagers were arrested by police on charges of joy riding in a frightening manner on the crowded roads of Turba town to the east of Makkah. Announcing that they will be punished in an exemplary way, Capt. Mansour Al-Husseini urged parents to ensure that their children are not putting traffic safety at risk.

Child dies of heat inside car: A four-year- old child was killed of heat and dehydration inside a car parked in the sun in Fayiza district in Buraidah. The child is suspected to have entered his brother’s car, which was parked in front of the house, and locked without anyone noticing it. The tragedy was discovered when the brother opened the car four hours after he had parked there. Since the windows were sun-shaded no passer-by could possibly see the child from the outside.

49 rounded up for violation: A special police force in Riyadh rounded up on Sunday 49 violators of Saudization regulations. They were found working in a sheep market in Sulay and handed over to the Passport Department for necessary action, including deportation.

358 held for begging: The anti-beggary department in Makkah arrested 358 beggars from the streets and markets in the Holy City following intensified inspections in the morning and evening. While 234 of them were adult male the remaining were women and children, according to an official of the department. Most of them were foreigners.

Boy drowns in pool: A three-year old baby accompanying a family on picnic drowned in the swimming pool of a rest house in Aziziah district in Madinah. The accident occurred while the family was busy with some activities. Civil Defense personnel recovered the body from the water.

Shops gutted: A fire in the Jamia district in Madinah gutted a number of shops in a busy street on Sunday. No loss of life was reported. The fire was attributed to an electrical short circuit. Four teams of Civil Defense were deployed to contain the raging fire. Another fire destroyed several shops in a shopping complex housing electrical, and used furniture shops at Muaysem in Makkah on Sunday. No loss of life was reported.

26 companies fined: Jeddah Municipality fined 26 service companies more than SR 114,000 for their failure to comply with the regulation pertaining to digging in the streets. A project coordination bureau at the municipality follows up the works of contractors to ensure that road digging is done properly and in accordance with conditions specified by the municipality.
