JEDDAH, 3 August — A new set of officers of the Tanglaw Toastmasters Club of Jeddah has been inducted into office.
Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) A. Ponnuchamy, the incumbent district governor of the Gulf Toastmasters Council (GTC), administered the oath to the officers for the year 2002-2003 at the Al Hamra Sofitel on Thursday.
The officers are Noriza Guerra, president; Wilfredo Araza, vice president for education; Milagros Abenes, vice president for membership; Danilo Factoran, VP for public relations; Elmer Fuentes, secretary; Renato Leano, treasurer; and Henry Cabansag, sergeant-at-arms.
Mrs. Guerra, Araza, Mrs. Abenes, and Factoran hold the title of CTM, or competent toast master. Fuentes, Leano, and Cabansag are all TMs, or toastmasters.
Also during the same event, CTM Danilo Abenes, Tanglaw’s immediate past president, awarded recognition to members who have qualified for exemplary performance awards.
The top awardees were: Araza, outstanding toastmaster of the year; Factoran, most enthusiastic toastmaster of the year; CTM Manuel Talidano, most improved toastmaster of the year.
Several other toastmasters received medals for best prepared speaker, best evaluator and best table topics speaker for three cumulative meetings.
CTM Ben Guerra, the current governor of the Toastmasters’ Saudi West Area, received a plaque of appreciation from the club for spearheading the formation of various clubs.
Tanglaw is one of the 8,000 chartered Toastmasters Club worldwide and is affiliated with Toastmasters International, which is based in California.
Tanglaw was again awarded the “President’s Distinguished Club Award” for the year 2001-2002, the highest award being given to a club by Toastmasters International.
