JEDDAH, 4 August — The Passport Department has started issuing new iqamas (residence permits) in the form of electronic cards in place of booklets, Al-Bilad Arabic daily reported yesterday.
The new iqama cards are designed with the color and logo of the Passport Department, the paper said, adding that its size is convenient for people to carry.
The Arabic daily said the new cards will contain all information related to expatriate workers. "It will make forging of iqamas difficult," the paper said quoting department officials.
Over the past years, police have arrested a number of expatriates, especially Asians, for forging iqamas, passports and other travel documents.
