RIYADH, 5 August — In a move to combat terrorism at regional and international levels, Saudi Arabia and several other Arab countries have joined hands to hold joint training sessions for their security personnel and experts. A high-profile training session, to be attended by a large number of Saudi and Arab experts, will begin today at the famous Central Police College in the Prague.
"The five-day training program has been organized by the Riyadh-based Naif Arab Academy for Security Sciences (NAASS) with the aim of educating Arab cadres on how to combat terrorism", said a statement released by NAASS here today. NAASS has called on Arab states to intensify efforts to forge closer cooperation to combat terrorism at regional and global levels.
A huge contingent of experts and security personnel drawn from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain, Algeria, Djibouti, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco and Yemen besides other Arab countries is expected in the Prague to participate in the training program. The program will focus on how to collect information about terrorism, possible attacks and terror organizations besides other related subjects.
Referring to the efforts of Naif academy to train security personnel of Arab countries in combating terrorism, a NAASS official said that the academy has set up a permanent exhibition of security equipment, firearms and drugs to generate awareness. The exhibition also features crime prevention systems, burglar alarms, counterfeiting and forgery detection systems besides a range of devices for identification and collection of criminal evidence. He said that NAASS seeks to fulfill the needs expressed by Arab law enforcement agencies for an academic institution that would promote research on security issues, offer post-graduate programs and conduct training courses that can contribute to the prevention and control of crime in the Arab countries.
NAASS, he said, has also planned to award doctorates to researchers in selected areas within its mandate.This Arab organization has, in fact, been playing a major role in educating security personnel to combat terrorism, crime and drug trafficking.
The academy has also published more than 250 major titles on a range of subjects like terrorism, human rights, crime, juvenile delinquency, criminal justice system, prisons, violence and drugs. NAASS was founded by the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior.
