JEDDAH, 8 August — An exquisite show of paintings, murals and other art forms highlights the third summer exhibition of House of Artists that opened at Jamjoom Center here last night. The 10-day event, the house’s third this season, was inaugurated by Abdullah Salman Al-Johany, vice-president, marketing, Saudi Arabian Airlines.
Forty house members have put up 24 exhibits, which were described as “impressive” by the chief guest who was conducted on a tour of the show by Saleh A. Bogary, chairman of the house and a top executive of Al-Khaleejiah Advertising & Public Relations Co. Ltd. The house is part of the General Presidency of Youth Welfare.
“It’s one of our missions to promote art and culture and we are sponsoring this show as a step toward enriching the Kingdom’s traditions,” the chief guest said. Bogary appreciated the national airline’s noble gesture in supporting such art shows.
Exhibits including acrylic works by Mishal Al-Amri, use of colors demonstrated in an eye-catching painting by former house Chairman Hisham Ahmed Binjabi, and an art piece with the help of old battery cells are among attractions at the show.
Colorful art works have also been exhibited by Ahmed Flimban, Abdul Aziz Bouby Ashraf, Ahmed Hussain Al-Ghamdi, Saeed Al-Ghamhawi, Suwain Sheikh, Giland Saleh Al-Ghamdi, Nadah Abdulhameed Bukhari, Waheeb Zagzoog, Rania Rajab, Fayez Al-Harithy, Riyadh Hamdum and Muhammad Ali Alshahri, aside from Awad Saleh Abdul-Sayed, a veteran artist and secretary of the house.
Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Rabat, a caricaturist and designer of murals who has participated in national and overseas exhibitions, Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, who has held exhibitions in Cairo, Bangladesh, Sharjah and Europe, and Alsheikh Idris, a graduate of the Khartoum Fine Arts College who has also exhibited in different parts of the world, are part of the exhibition’s selection committee. “The committee had a tough time selecting 24 exhibits from among 110 entries received from members,” Bogary added.
“We’re delighted to hold the house’s third show this summer. The first two were a big success,” Bogary said, adding exhibits at the three shows were all produced by house members.
“Our aim at all the shows this season has been to enable art lovers appreciate the exhibits and price them affordably.”
The season’s first exhibition of the house with 42 pieces was opened by Arab News Editor-in-Chief Khaled A. Al-Maeena, on the eve of the inauguration of the annual Jeddah summer festival by Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed. The 10-day show successfully ended on June 30.
The house’s second exhibition followed with 51 paintings and other art pieces. The show, part of the just-ended annual Jeddah summer festival, was held under the auspices of Ahmed M. Badeeb, chairman of the Jehan Group Holding Co.
This 10-day show also turned out to be a success.
Meanwhile, the house has been conducting a summer workshop for young talents learning the art of sketching and painting.
