AMMAN, 13 August — Jordan Tourism Board is featuring 16 mega stars at Layali Sharqiyeh, claimed to be the biggest musical extravaganza in the Arab world, in Amman from Thursday to Saturday. This is expected to set standards of presentation and musical excellence just as Woodstock did on a farm four decades ago or the 50th coronation bash for England’s Queen Elizabeth in June this year. The event is being held under the patronage of Prince Ali ibn Al-Hussein. "This is the first and finest gathering of musical stars ever. No one has ever attempted something like this before. We can’t say it will be another Woodstock. That was in another era for a different generation in a different culture. However, we aim to emulate that four-decade-old magic with style and content. We expect visitors with their families from the GCC countries to come by the thousands and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime picnic. Layali Sharqiyeh is being launched this year in conjunction with Amman Arab Cultural Capital 2002 celebrations," said JTB Managing Director Marwan Khouri.
