JEDDAH, 19 August — New rules and regulations approved by Makkah Governor Prince Abdul Majeed will allow pilgrims to select their housing units in Makkah before they arrive in the Kingdom, Bandar Qabbani, chairman of the pilgrim housing committee, told Okaz newspaper. A computer system linking the Haj Ministry and Tawafa organizations will help pilgrims identify the housing units, their location in Makkah and distance from the Grand Mosque. The ministry licensed about 6,500 buildings last year to accommodate about 1.5 million pilgrims. This year the number is expected to cross 7,000 to house two million pilgrims.
