CHICAGO, 19 August — A handful of protesters held placards at the Indian Independence Day Parade in Chicago, denouncing the anti-Muslim holocaust in the western Indian state of Gujarat. The protest was organized by the Gujarati Muslim Association. The placards read "Condemn Gujarat Holocaust." However, the protesters also waved Indian flags asserting their faith in Indian democracy. Recently there had been allegations that many overseas individuals and organizations of Indian origin have been financing anti-minority terrorist activities in India. In a May 22,2002 Wall Street Journal article businessman Kanwal Rekhi global chairman of TiE (The Indus Entrepeneurs) and Henry Rowen, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, wrote: ""Many overseas Indian Hindus — including some in this country — finance religious groups in India in the belief that the funds will be used to build temples. Many would be appalled to know that some recipients of their money are out to destroy minorities (Christians as well as Muslims) and their places of worship. Vajpayee could deal a severe blow to such covert causes by simply labeling them as terrorists." Also Britain’s Charity Commission has launched an investigation into alllegations that Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh are linked to terrorists.
