DAVAO CITY, 31 August — Sen. Robert Jaworski said he is ready to switch back to the opposition block if he sees that it will be the wise thing to do.
In a talk with reporters in this southern city over the weekend, he described the present status in the Senate as "still shaky."
Jaworski was among the politicians who graced the Kadayawan festival.
Despite the present 13-10 standing in the Senate in favor of the administration, the opposition can still pull off some tricks, he said.
Jaworski bolted from the opposition and joined the administration legislators to break the deadlock in the Senate caused by the defection of Sen. John H. Osmeña to the opposition camp.
"What if some of the administration senators get sick or travel abroad, marami pa ring pupwedeng mangyari (anything can happen) with that slim margin," he said.
The former basketball superstar, however, hopes that there will be no more Senate coups, such as the one he and his former opposition colleagues pulled off in June.
It will be the country that will be greatly affected, he pointed out.
He expressed confidence that his colleagues, who can very well make their own decisions, would not put party loyalty ahead of their sworn duty to their constituents.
Jaworski said he was thinking of the people when he decided to transfer to the administration.
The senator ihad been in the limelight lately when two media men from this city allegedly tried to extort money from him. The reporters reportedly asked 20 thousand pesos each to give him full blast and positive coverage.
