JEDDAH, 4 September — Saudi-German Hospitals Group has changed into a joint stock company with the Islamic Development Bank joining as a partner.

This was announced yesterday by Subhi Batterji, chairman of the group, at a ceremony organized to mark the graduation of 120 students of King Abdul Aziz University’s Faculty of Medicine.

The announcement came as the group planned to establish a number of new hospitals in Arab and African countries.

“There is a plan to expand the group’s activities in Arab and Islamic countries as well as to improve the standard of service at its hospitals,” Batterji said.

“The new partnership with IDB will open new areas of cooperation between the bank and the health sector,” he said.

Plans are also under way to expand the Saudi-German Hospital in Jeddah shortly by adding an 18-story building to the north of the existing facility.

The group provides on-the-job training to 150 KAAU students every year.

“We also hold weekly scientific lectures for our doctors to keep them abreast of modern developments in the medical field,” Batterji said.

The Jeddah hospital alone has held 605 lectures.

Dr. Khaled Batterji, deputy chairman of the group, disclosed the company’s plan to employ more qualified and trained Saudi doctors and nurses at its hospitals.
