JEDDAH, 5 September — The last canvassing of the Bicolano community’s “Search for Miss Peñafrancia” popularity contest in Jeddah had been moved to Sept. 13, organizers said yesterday.
Evelyn Santos, president of the Bag-ong Bicol Saro nin Jeddah, said the canvassing was originally scheduled on Friday but some participants have asked for the postponement.
Since its start several years ago, the annual event had been one of the biggest crowd drawer in Jeddah’s Filipino community.
Ms. Santos said the Bicol Saro is inviting community members again to witness the coronation program on Sept. 27.
One of the program’s special features is a cultural presentation.
The organization regularly donates proceeds of its program to a charity organization in the eastern Philippine region of Bicol, and provides a scholarship program for its members and their dependents.
